Episode 7: Forestry and Real Estate with Scott Ratcliff

Welcome back to Grounded, the HomeLand Properties Roundtable Podcast — your go-to source for conversations around land, timber, forestry, commercial, and rural real estate in East Texas.
We’re based in Huntsville, Texas, and every week we bring together members of our team and special guests to share real stories, expert insights, and practical advice for landowners, buyers, and sellers across the region.

This week, we’re excited to welcome real estate agents Robbi Flack Langley and Scott Ratcliff, along with our Business Development Coordinator, Meichell Arnold, to the table. Together, they bring a blend of field experience, market knowledge, and behind-the-scenes perspective that makes for a well-rounded conversation.

In this episode, we’re spotlighting Scott’s unique journey into real estate — a story that truly reflects what HomeLand Properties is all about.

Scott didn’t start his career in real estate. He came to us originally as a client, with a background in forestry and a deep appreciation for land. Over time, that experience, combined with his growing interest in the market, led him to make the leap into real estate. Since 2019, he’s been an integral part of our team — using his knowledge of timber, land management, and rural property to help clients find exactly what they’re looking for.

We’ll talk about:

  • What it’s like transitioning from a client to an agent

  • How Scott’s forestry background gives him a unique edge when evaluating land

  • What he’s learned since joining the team and working closely with buyers and sellers in East Texas

  • And how building relationships and understanding land from the ground up truly shapes his approach

If you’re curious about careers in real estate, how professionals with diverse backgrounds make the jump into the industry, or just want to hear a great personal story about passion and purpose — this episode is for you.

Let’s get Grounded.
